1. What does your role involve?

I manage the machine shop and the production of manufactured parts from various assemblies. I schedule all the projects from order, through to production and delivery. Sometimes, projects/orders can come in with a demanding deadline and we have the ability to react rapidly to quick turn around projects. I liaise with the Workshop Manager and production to ensure projects are delivered on time. Often when projects don’t need welding, it enables Orbital Fabrications to have shorter lead times. We pride ourselves to offer a complete turnkey solutions and as a result of our in house capabilities we work closely with our clients to ensure timings are managed effectively. We don’t subcontract anything out.

  1. What do you think makes Orbital Fabrications unique?

Orbital Fabrications can offer a full turnkey solutions service to all our clients. A customer can place an order and receive a final assembly including welding, electrics and individual components – and it’s all manufactured under one roof. We have a rapid response rate within our production facilities which means we can often find space in the machine shop to deliver last minute orders.

  1. Tell us about the latest machine technology and innovations which enhance efficiency and capabilities for projects?

Orbital Fabrications invest in new machines – a recent investment is a Semi CNC lathe.  The benefits include enhancing prototype production where a rapid reaction is needed. When it comes to orbital welding, our team has a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills which enables us to react to stainless steel welding projects quickly.

When I started in 2007, we had one machine, no CNC and just an old lathe. Now we have a machine room with 7 machines and career opportunities to offer including onboarding apprentices. They can learn how to make parts conventionally on a manual machine and learn new skills.
