At Orbital Fabrications we have over 35 years’ experience in building gas control equipment for the distribution of hazardous special gas and fluids.

A VMB (Valve Manifold Box) is a specialised, vacuum extracted enclosure that is utilised in many applications and industries including semiconductor, pharmaceutical and R&D applications.

A VMB allows a single source gas to be distributed to multiple locations or facilitates the mixing of multiple gases safely, and is able to be isolated for maintenance or in the event of an emergency.

This solution offers a wide range of configurations depending on purity, flow rates, delivery pressure and more.

A single enclosure can range from a single gas stick up to 20-way arrangements. Offering safety and peace of mind when distributing toxic, pyrophoric, corrosive and flammable gases, a VMB can include isolation valves, pressure reducing regulators & pressure gauges, mass flow meters/controllers, pressure transducers, temperature transmitters, excess flow valves as well as pneumatic ESO (emergency shut off) valves.

Utilising software such as Solidworks, our engineering team has the expertise and knowledge to facilitate design, component selection, and safety requirements for any gas control system. We offer the following services:

 Whether you need a fully detailed design created from your gas schematic/P&ID, or you would like a value engineering exercise with current projects, our engineering department can offer the support and expertise required for the gas control equipment solution to suit your needs. 

Safety will always be the most important factor when building and installing a gas control equipment solution due to working with toxic, pyrophoric, corrosive and flammable gases.

Orbital Fabrications has extensive knowledge and a complete understanding of the associated dangers of using special gases within industry. With this in mind, we always strive to deliver the best solution for each application, offering peace of mind and reliability to our clients and end users. Typically, coaxial distribution pipework will be fully welded and will terminate inside the extracted enclosure. Each gas line will usually be configured to feature a pressure measurement device and will monitor the pressure. In the event of a leak, the gas system will be shut down via ESO valves either in the box or at source.

Gas detection can also be installed inside the enclosure which will immediately shut the gas off in the event of an emergency.

Fully Tested and Certified

All gas control equipment is fully tested using one of our three helium mass-spectrometer leak detectors, where leak rates down to a level of 5×10-10 mbar l/sec can be detected. When resistance to positive pressure is a concern, we subject the final assemblies to a stringent pressure test, either in the form of a functional snoop test or a pressure drop test. Assemblies can be tested safely within our Cambridgeshire facility to bottle pressure and beyond.
